Tjok Dessauvage

Cylinder Tjok

Ceramicist Tjok Dessauvage was trained at the St. Lukas Academy in Ghent, Belgium.

Dessauvage's work employs a basic range of forms, he considers his pot shapes; cylinders, hemispheres or cones as bearers of decoration.

The pots are fired as Raku and burnished. Shape and finish are immaculate; the decoration is austere and meditative.

For a foundation he uses black and orange clay and various techniques for decoration. This consists of colour, scored lines, holes, gold, porcelain, bone and sometimes surface treatment of the pot by local heating.

These contemporary and simplistic ceramics have gained Tjok recognition from all over the world and he has had numerous exhibitions displaying these elegant pieces of art.
